Mt Washington (6288') NH, February '99, 4200ft elevation gain.

In order to restart our traditional Winter School Mt Washington trip, Scott Fitzgerald organized a small group of 8 people to head to the mountain.

We arrived at Intervale on friday night, but noticing how beautiful the night was, we decided that we would head out to Mt Washington really early. So we woke up at 3:00am and were starting the hike at the trailhead at 5:30am.

The day was good, no major storms, it snowed a bit, no major winds, a lot of traffic (which is nice from the safety point of view up to a point). We reached the summit and were back down at 4:30pm. The conditions were perfect for glissading (in laymen term: sliding graciously), so most of the group on the way down, took off their crampoons, and butt slided most of their way down.

Here are some pictures taken by Matt Reagan:

Overall it was a nice hike (9 miles), look forward to doing it again soon.
